Miller & Val Greiss Anson & Deeley clamshell actioned Double Rifle. The caliber is 9.3 x 74R, but not the common version. This one is a larger diameter case and more powerful. I don't know if it is a Miller & Val Greiss proprietary round or strictly a wildcat. Whichever, the gun is very well regulated and is accurate with any bullet weight between 250 and 300 grains. The receiver is engraved with a very distinctive floral pattern on the clamshell and a floral scroll pattern on the rest of the receiver, including the bottom. The barrels are 24" long with excellent bores and excellent bluing. The gun weighs a svelte 7 1/4 lbs.The butt stock is a good but not overly fancy piece of European walnut and is checkered in a fairly elaborate pattern. The fore end is similarly checkered and all checkering is in very good condition. A recoil pad has been added somewhere along the line, which may indicate that the stock was refurbished at that time. If so, the workmanship throughout is superb. There is an automatic tang safety as well as a "stalking safety" lever that locks the tang safety. The trigger guard is horn. There is an oval with some sort of family marking in the toe of the stock. The gun is in truly excellent condition in and out and is one of the few double rifles I have ever owned which truly rises to the shoulder like a fine shotgun.
